Frequently Asked Questions
Planning a visit to the Jackson or Yellowstone area? Take a few minutes to look over some of the most common questions we get regarding visiting this beautiful western wilderness. Of course if you have other questions, do not hesitate to contact us, we are more than happy to assist you!
Where is the ranch located?
An isolated retreat deep in the Gros Ventre River Valley, Goosewing marks the entry point to a protected, pristine wilderness. We are located 40 miles northeast of Jackson, Wyoming in the Bridger-Teton National Forest, bordering the Gros Ventre Wilderness. Our remote location allows for excellent horseback riding, fantastic scenery and many opportunities to spot wildlife.
How far is the ranch from Jackson?
Goosewing Ranch is located about 40 miles northeast of the town of Jackson. You will need about 30 minutes for the first half, through beautiful Grand Teton National Park. The last 20 miles will take about 45 minutes, driving along a scenic dirt road through the Bridger Teton National Forest.
How far is the ranch from Yellowstone National Park?
Goosewing Ranch is about 90 miles from the south entrance of the Park. Allow at least 2 hours for driving through Grand Teton Park and wilderness and along the John D. Rockefeller Memorial Parkway to reach the South entrance of Yellowstone.
Which is the closest airport?
Jackson Hole airport (JAC) is 30 miles away. It is about a one hour drive from the ranch. The Jackson Hole Airport is connected to several major hubs in the US (Chicago, Denver, Salt Lake City, Dallas, etc.). Flying into Salt Lake City, UT and renting a car from there may prove a good choice. Salt Lake City is about 6 hours from Jackson. There are generally more daily flights available into Salt Lake than into Jackson. This is a fun alternative for those with extra days available before/after your ranch stay, which can include a visit to Yellowstone National Park and the Jackson Hole area.
Is there an airport shuttle?
Transfers are available from the town of Jackson or the Jackson Hole airport for $200 + tax per party per round trip per vehicle. You will be met in the baggage claim area; look for someone holding a Goosewing Ranch sign.

For guests that would like to visit other locations than Goosewing Ranch, a rental car provides freedom in scheduling these activities.
A four wheel drive vehicle is recommended early and late in the season.
Is there wildlife around the ranch?
Depending on the time of season, there are opportunities to spot elk, moose, mule deer, antelope, eagles, black bears, wolves, mountain lions, trumpeter swans, cranes and geese in the area.
What is the scenery like?
Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks are surrounded by huge National Forests that create a unique ecosystem.
Surrounding the high valley of Jackson Hole are 3 mountain ranges (Teton, Gros Ventre, and Wind River), all reaching more than 10,000 feet in elevation. Flowing through the valley are the Snake and Gros Ventre Rivers.
Where is the nearest hospital?
OTC medications are available at the ranch. All of our guides are CPR and First Aid certified. St. John’s Medical Center in Jackson is a well-known and great hospital. Idaho Falls and Salt Lake City both offer larger medical centers.
