Planning a visit to the Jackson or Yellowstone area? Take a few minutes to look over some of the most common questions we get regarding visiting this beautiful western wilderness. Of course if you have other questions, do not hesitate to contact us, we are more than happy to assist you!

Where is the ranch located?

An isolated retreat deep in the Gros Ventre River Valley, Goosewing marks the entry point to a protected, pristine wilderness. We are located 40 miles northeast of Jackson, Wyoming in the Bridger-Teton National Forest, bordering the Gros Ventre Wilderness. Our remote location allows for excellent horseback riding, fantastic scenery and many opportunities to spot wildlife.

How far is the ranch from Jackson?

Goosewing Ranch is located about 40 miles northeast of the town of Jackson. You will need about 30 minutes for the first half, through beautiful Grand Teton National Park. The last 20 miles will take about 45 minutes, driving along a scenic dirt road through the Bridger Teton National Forest.

How far is the ranch from Yellowstone National Park?

Goosewing Ranch is about 90 miles from the south entrance of the Park. Allow at least 2 hours for driving through Grand Teton Park and wilderness and along the John D. Rockefeller Memorial Parkway to reach the South entrance of Yellowstone.

Which is the closest airport?

Jackson Hole airport (JAC) is 30 miles away. It is about a one hour drive from the ranch. The Jackson Hole Airport is connected to several major hubs in the US (Chicago, Denver, Salt Lake City, Dallas, etc.). Flying into Salt Lake City, UT and renting a car from there may prove a good choice. Salt Lake City is about 6 hours from Jackson. There are generally more daily flights available into Salt Lake than into Jackson. This is a fun alternative for those with extra days available before/after your ranch stay, which can include a visit to Yellowstone National Park and the Jackson Hole area.

Is there an airport shuttle?

Transfers are available from the town of Jackson or the Jackson Hole airport.  Shuttles are not inclusive of the package price and are an additional cost per cabin.  Shuttles must be pre arranged at least 3 weeks in advance and are non refundable 10 days prior to arrival.

Do I need to rent a vehicle?

For guests that would like to visit other locations than Goosewing Ranch, a rental or personal vehicle provides freedom in scheduling these activities.
A four wheel or all-wheel drive vehicle is recommended.

Is there wildlife around the ranch?

Depending on the time of season, there are opportunities to spot elk, moose, mule deer, antelope, eagles, black bears, wolves, mountain lions, trumpeter swans, cranes and geese in the area.

What is the scenery like?

Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks are surrounded by huge National Forests that create a unique ecosystem.
Surrounding the high valley of Jackson Hole are 3 mountain ranges (Teton, Gros Ventre, and Wind River), all reaching more than 10,000 feet in elevation. Flowing through the valley are the Snake and Gros Ventre Rivers.

Where is the nearest hospital?

OTC medications are available at the ranch. All of our guides are CPR and First Aid certified. St. John’s Medical Center in Jackson is a well-known and great hospital. Idaho Falls and Salt Lake City both offer larger medical centers.

What should I bring?

Layering is advised for comfort. Bring jeans, long sleeve shirts, jackets, hat, leather boots with a heel for riding, walking or hiking shoes, sunglasses and sunscreen. The ranch is western and casual.  Don’t forget your swim suit and camera!  Weather can be unpredictable in the mountains with rain and snow in all months of the year.

Is there cell phone reception at the ranch? Wireless Internet? TV?

There is no cell phone signal at or around the ranch.  Complementary limited Wi-Fi internet is available in the main lodge and in the cabins.  Must guests use the wifi to make calls from their cell phones.
Satellite radio is in the loft of the lodge near the pool table, and book shelves are located in the loft of the main lodge.

Do you allow pets?

Please don’t bring your pets.  We don’t typically allow any outside pets on the ranch.   For the safety of all guests and animals, the ranch only allows you to bring your pets only after management approval.  ESA animals are not supported under the ADA and are not permitted.  Service animals trained in assistance are welcome!  If your pet is approved on the ranch you will be subject to a $250 non refundable pet fee, if damages occur or additional cleaning is required you will be subject to a $50/ hour cleaning fee.  Pets are not allowed in any ranch building, including the cabins.  Pets are not permitted on horseback trails or near the horses.  If you bring a pet without permission you will be refused service.  ADA certified dogs are welcome.

How long is the summer season?

Typical summer season starts the first Sunday in June and ends the 3rd Saturday in September.

How many guests can the ranch accommodate?

The ranch can accommodate 35 guests, in eleven individual cabins.  The wagons can accommodate an additional 17 max.

What are the ranch accommodations?

There are eight authentic 1-room, 1-bath log cabins that offer casual western comfort, complete with full bath, gas fireplace and porch, and newly remodeled with lodge pole furniture (with different bedding arrangements for different family sizes). There are three 2-bedroom, 1-bath cabins for larger families, which have 1 queen bed in the parental bedroom, and 1 double bed and a set of bunk beds in the kids’ bedroom, in addition to a full bath and porch. There are 4 authentic custom wagons with private detached bathroom cabins.  All accommodations are non-smoking. Smoking is permitted outdoors only in designated areas.  See Lodging

What is the riding program like?

Does the ranch offer overnight pack trips?

We will not be offering pack trips for the 2023 season

Is there fishing available?

Yes, the Gros Ventre is home to some amazing fishing.  Please see Activities/Fishing

Does the Ranch have ATVs or UTVs available?

Is hiking available?

Yes, there are great hiking trails surrounding the Goosewing Ranch.  Please see Activities/Hiking

Does the ranch have a children’s program?

We offer activities for all age groups.   Kids activities are best suited for those 6 and up.  This is not a babysitting or full kids camp program

Does the ranch have a Swimming pool & hot tub?

We DO NOT have a pool.  We have 3 large hot tubs outside overlooking the Gros Ventre river.  We don’t have a traditional swimming pool.  Goosewing Ranch does NOT offer spa services of any kind.  Please see Activities/Spa

Does the ranch have a playground?

Our Fort Goosewing playground area, complete with swings, slides, bridges, rock-wall, and shaded picnic area, will entertain little Davey Crocketts.
And a kids cabin with many fun games and western activities.

What are the meals like?

Does the ranch serve alcohol?

The ranch has a liquor license and offers a excellent selection of wine, liquor and beer. Alcohol is NOT inclusive of any ranch package.  There is a corkage fee for guests who would like to bring their own alcohol.  We also accept special requests and can have the alcohol you desire on hand with advanced notice.  We have beer, liqueur, and wine selections.  Alcohol is an additional cost.  Must be at least 21 years of age to enjoy.  Please see  Wine/Bar List

What types of evening entertainment are there?

Do you have a gift shop?

We have a gift shop in the main office.  Items can include:  coffee mugs, ornaments, bandanas, hooded sweatshirts, chaps, cowboy hats, ball caps, leather gloves, jackets and vests, wildrags, stampede strings, candles, basic over the counter medicine, post cards and more.

Does the ranch have guest laundry facilities?

Yes, we have a laundry facility, which exclusively serves our guests. Laundry facilities are available at no extra cost, and laundry detergent is sold at the ranch.  Guests can also bring their own HE detergent.

Is rafting available?

There is rafting in the local area but not on the ranch or offered by the ranch.

Does the ranch offer sightseeing tours?

There are sight seeing tours in the area to Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks.  These are not inclusive of the package or offered by the ranch.

What is the weather like and Packing?

Warm, dry days are the norm during summer time with evenings and nights often dropping to quite chilly temperatures.  Short rain showers may occur in early spring or late summer.
Remember, we are located at 7400 feet, the sun is very intense, and sunscreen and a hat are essentials.  Be sure to drink plenty of water.

We recommend for you to pack layers of clothing, long sleeves are great to keep you warm and cool (keeping the sun off your skin), bathing suits, cowboy boots, walking or hiking shoes, hats, sunscreen, shorts and t-shirts, long pants and jeans.  Goosewing Ranch is Western attire and casual for all settings and meals.  Weather is unpredictable and we can experience rain or snow even during the summer months.  If doing a pack trip bring along some extra warm clothing such as stocking caps and wool socks, and rain gear.
